In a tragic accident, a Hyderabad family of four died in a gruesome car crash in Green County, Texas, on Monday. The victims—Sri Venkat, wife Tejaswini, and the two children—lost their lives after their car crashed head-on into a mini-truck going in the wrong direction. The collision made the car erupt in flames with no escape option.

Vehicle Burnt to Rubble in Seconds

The authorities indicated that the Hyderabad family was traveling back to Dallas from visiting their relatives in Atlanta. Preliminary investigations indicate that their vehicle was hit by a mini-truck driving on the wrong side of the road, which caused an immediate fire. The emergency responders found the car ablaze and scattered in ashes at the accident scene.

“By the time the emergency crew arrived, the car was nothing but a pile of ash,” an official stated. Bone remains were the only thing recovered from the wreckage, which have since been submitted for forensic examination.

The officials explained that DNA will be used to identify the bodies before handing over the remains to the bereaved family.

Part of a Disturbing Pattern in Texas

This horrific crash is just a part of a growing pattern of deadly road accidents involving Indian families in Texas. Four Indian nationals—Aryan Raghunath Orampati, Farooq Shaik, Lokesh Palacharla, and Darshini Vasudevan—died in the same type of accident in September 2024 when an SUV was rear-ended by a speeding truck in Anna, Texas, resulting in a devastating fire.

Only last month, in August 2024, a similar incident took place, in which another Indian-origin couple and their daughter were murdered. Only their teenage son survived the crash.

Local people and civic bodies are demanding tighter enforcement of traffic laws and improved road safety measures in those areas that have witnessed repeated killing crashes involving Indian nationals.

The authorities are still working on determining the cause of the recent collision, and consular officials are in contact with the victims’ extended families to provide support and assistance.
