Gujarat Ramps Up Process to Return Bodies of Plane Crash Victims

After the tragic Ahmedabad plane crash, the Gujarat Health Department and district administration acted quickly. Following the state government’s directive, they began identifying victims and returning their bodies to families. The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) is closely supervising the entire process. Officials are handling the sensitive task of DNA matching with both urgency and care.

DNA Verification Begins the Process

Once the DNA reports are available, the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad starts a structured protocol. Authorities have set up a verification centre at Block D2 of the hospital. Families arrive here first. Staff verify their identities before proceeding. Next, the Postmortem Room receives a notification to prepare the mortal remains.

Families Receive Support at Every Step

While they wait, families sit in a designated area. A counsellor, medical team, and a Public Relations Officer (PRO) stay with them. These officials clearly explain the entire process. They also brief families on the documents they will receive with the remains.

Handing Over the Bodies and Documents

After postmortem formalities, the PRO escorts the families to the Postmortem Room. Here, hospital staff hand over the body and all related documents. The government has assigned a special team to each family. This team includes a senior officer, police personnel, a health worker, and a counsellor. Their job is to ensure smooth coordination from start to finish.

Families Receive All Required Documents

Along with the body, the government provides the death certificate, Accidental Death (AD) report, postmortem note, and police investigation details. Families also get the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) DNA match report and any jewelry or belongings recovered from the victim.

Government Mobilizes Full Support

To ensure timely assistance, the state has deployed 192 ambulances and 591 trained personnel. These include doctors, assistants, and drivers. The government also set up a help desk at Kasauti Bhavan in BJ Medical College. This desk coordinates with the control room and manages all on-ground operations.

Direct and Compassionate Assistance

Throughout this tragedy, the administration has remained in direct contact with the families. Officials have helped with DNA sampling, airport transfers, accommodations, food, and transport. Above all, they have handled every responsibility with empathy, ensuring that grieving families feel supported and respected.
