In a major counter-insurgency success, security forces gunned down four Maoists, including three women, in a forest encounter in Madhya Pradesh’s Balaghat district on Saturday. The operation, led jointly by Hawkforce, the local district police, and CRPF personnel, unfolded in the heavily wooded areas of Pachmadar and Katejhiriya.

Security Forces Foil Planned Attack in Anti-Maoist Operation

The operation was initiated after credible intelligence was received on Friday evening regarding the movement of Maoist operatives in the area.

Security forces launched a large-scale search, which soon escalated into a fierce exchange of gunfire.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav confirmed the incident and revealed that the Maoists had been planning a violent strike, which was successfully thwarted. “Our forces acted decisively and eliminated all armed Naxalites before they could harm anyone… I congratulate the entire police force,” Yadav stated.

Seizure of Weapons, CM Lauds Forces

Security forces seized a significant cache of weapons from the site. This includes a grenade launcher, a self-loading rifle (SLR), two .315 bore rifles, and other equipment. CM Yadav emphasized that Balaghat is the only district in the state still grappling with Naxal activity. “Balaghat is the only Naxal-affected district in the state, and our police force has shown exceptional courage in dealing with this menace,” he said.

Security personnel are continuing their combing operation in the region. They are also scanning the dense forest for any remaining threats or Maoist hideouts.

The recovery of advanced weapons points to a planned large-scale attack, which officials say could’ve caused major casualties.

Officials are calling the encounter one of Madhya Pradesh’s biggest anti-Maoist wins this year. Security forces killed three women among the four Maoists.

CM Yadav praised the police’s swift action and reaffirmed the state’s resolve to wipe out Maoist influence from Balaghat. However, as its last affected region, he aims to make it safer for all.

Authorities are now on high alert to prevent any possible retaliation.
