A rivalry between two Mumbai families dating back years broke out into a fatal fight on Sunday night, killing three men and injuring four. Police confirmed the dispute arose out of longstanding animosity between the Sheikh and Gupta families.

Argument Triggered by Drunken Encounter

The violence started at about 4:30 PM when Amit Sheikh, who was allegedly drunk, walked past the coconut shop belonging to Ram Naval Gupta. A war of words between the two resulted in a fight escalating into a physical one very quickly.

Both families allegedly requested reinforcements. Ram Naval Gupta and his sons — Amar, Arvind, and Amit — hired themselves out with sharp weapons and attacked Hamid Nasiruddin Sheikh and his sons, Arman and Hasan.

Three Killed, Four Hurt in Violent Brawl

During the ensuing violent confrontation, Ram Naval Gupta and his son Arvind Gupta were killed on the spot. Amar and Amit Gupta were left with serious injuries. Hamid Sheikh was among those who died from the Sheikh family, while Arman and Hasan Sheikh were seriously injured.

Police Launch Murder Probe, Tighten Security

The dead body was taken to Shatabdi Hospital for post-mortem. A case of murder has been registered, and one suspect is taken into custody. Nevertheless, he is currently hospitalized as he was in a very critical condition. Mumbai Police have sent extra forces to the locality to keep the situation under control.
