Mumbai Metro witnessed a huge inflow of commuters on Monday with social media posts showing the jam-packed crowds. The cause of congestion was mainly the delays on Metro Line 1, which runs from Versova to Ghatkopar.
This disruption occurred when a train had to be taken off after it was unable to attain its required speed. The technical glitch resulted in hold-ups on the line, triggering a sudden increase in the number of passengers at stations.
An X user pointed out the mayhem at Ghatkopar station, tweeting, “Crazy commuter woes due to 1 service withdrawn tech problems with Mumbai metro line 1 Stampede like scenario in ghatkopar station @Dev_Fadnavis @CMOMaharashtra act quickly before lives get lost Line 1 needs 6 bogie rakes & 3 times existing rakes.”
Metro authorities subsequently verified that the issue had been fixed and operations on the affected line had returned to normal.
Social Media Responses
The congested platforms and delayed trains triggered numerous social media users to lament their frustration. Some blamed Reliance, while others simply craved a work-from-home day in order to escape the mayhem.
One of the users commented, “And if you inform your boss that travelling is impossible, permit WFH, he won’t permit that and also bring it up in the year-end appraisals.”
Another commented on the city’s long-standing transit problems: “Rail saga continues for #mumbai – kars, whether it’s regular line or Metro where lakhs travel daily. Difficult to fathom, why is the globally recognised City sidelined & given lower priority, when it comes to essential & quality civic facilities & services!”
