A bomb threat letter found on a Jeddah-Ahmedabad flight triggered an extensive security operation at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Monday morning, police confirmed. No suspicious items have been discovered so far.

The threat note was located under a seat after all passengers had disembarked, prompting immediate action by security forces. Local police, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), and other agencies conducted a thorough sweep of the aircraft.

Sharad Singhal, Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, told PTI, “A flight from Jeddah landed in Ahmedabad this morning. Once passengers had exited, the cleaning staff discovered a note threatening to blow up the aircraft.”

Authorities are conducting fingerprint and handwriting analysis to identify any potential suspects. “We are examining the handwriting and fingerprints of each traveller, but so far, nothing suspicious has surfaced,” an official added.

A rise in hoax bomb threats

This incident comes amid a surge in hoax bomb threats targeting various establishments across India.

On February 7, a prestigious college and two schools in Delhi-NCR received bomb threats via email, prompting large-scale security responses. Explosive disposal teams and dog squads conducted thorough searches before authorities confirmed the threats were baseless.

Similarly, on February 4, two private schools in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, were evacuated after receiving bomb threats via email, disrupting examinations before officials ruled them as hoaxes. Earlier this month, four schools in Noida also faced similar threats, causing panic before security personnel deemed them false alarms.

Authorities have since registered cases against unknown individuals responsible for these threats. With such incidents on the rise, security agencies remain on high alert, actively investigating the origins of these hoaxes to prevent further disruptions.
