Indian Army has foiled a major infiltration attempt by heavily armed Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) militants along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Gambhir sector of Rajouri district on Sunday. In a quick action, the troops apprehended a Pakistani guide, breaking the infiltration and making the militants retreat.

“The quick and prompt response by vigilant troops led to the arrest of a vital guide, effectively crippling the infiltration effort and probably injuring the infiltrating terrorists,” the Army stated in a release.

Pakistani Guide Identified as Resident of PoK

The arrested person has been established as Mohammad Arib Ahmed, the son of Mohammad Yousuf, a local resident of Detote village in the Nikiyal sector of Kotli district in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). He was arrested during the combined counter-infiltration operation initiated by the Indian Army and Border Security Force (BSF), on the basis of certain intelligence inputs.

Terrorists Attempted to Use Topography, Escaped After Gunfight

According to defence officials, the infiltrators attempted to exploit the dense foliage and rugged terrain of Rajouri’s Gambhir region. Vigilant troops spotted suspicious movement involving four to five heavily armed men.

“During the follow-up operation, one of the persons—later found to be a guide helping with the infiltration—was successfully nabbed,” the official said. “The other four terrorists, who are suspected to be JeM members, are thought to have received injuries in a bid to escape and were compelled to withdraw across the LoC under the cover of dense vegetation and inclement weather conditions.”

Search Yields Pakistani Currency and Sensitive Materials

After the operation, the Army conducted a search in the region and recovered vital material such as a cell phone and Pakistani rupees, highlighting clear indications of cross-border terror activity associations.

During preliminary interrogation, Ahmed allegedly accepted being a citizen of PoK working on the orders of Pakistan Army officers at forward posts.

“The person also verified that the JeM terrorists were possessing substantial amounts of warlike stores, such as weapons, ammunition, and other incriminating material, further establishing the nefarious plan of the infiltrators,” the official said.

Detained Guide Being Questioned

Ahmed is being questioned by a joint intelligence team. Officials report crucial information is being pulled out, which will be used to strengthen the counter-infiltration grid along the region.

The Army has strengthened its intense surveillance and rapid-response strategy along LoC sectors in view of mounting efforts by terror groups to take advantage of the monsoon season and hilly terrain.
