Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio is reuniting with the acclaimed ‘Killers of the Flower Moon”s director Martin Scorsese for a new crime thriller based on an original idea from Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.
The movie, to be shot in Hawaii, will also star Johnson and Blunt and is expected to have an action-filled plot inspired by Scorsese’s crime classics, ‘Goodfellas’ (1990) and ‘The Departed’ (2006). Seasoned journalist and writer Nick Bilton, who wrote the HBO documentary ‘Fake Famous,’ will write the script.
Leonardo DiCaprio & Martin’s Movies
The as-yet-untitled crime thriller will cover the volatile 1960s-70s era in Hawaii, tracing the fight for control by a tough-as-nails mob boss against the island underworld’s other players. The film will be a thrill ride based on real-life crime history, providing viewers with an intense and visceral cinematic experience.
DiCaprio and Scorsese have created one of Hollywood’s all-time duos, having worked together on earlier blockbusters like ‘Gangs of New York,’ ‘The Aviator,’ ‘Shutter Island,’ ‘The Wolf of Wall Street,’ and most recently, ‘Killers of the Flower Moon.’ Their latest movie is a continuation of their practice of high-risk, character-driven filmmaking.
The Film’s Crew
The production crew of the film has a stellar list, including Scorsese, DiCaprio, Johnson, Blunt, Bilton, Dany Garcia, Lisa Frechette, and Rick Yorn as producers. The film will also once again bring together Johnson and Blunt, both of whom co-starred together in Disney’s “Jungle Cruise” and are expected to co-star in Benny Safdie’s latest drama, ‘The Smashing Machine’.
Along with this crime thriller, Scorsese and DiCaprio are currently in production on the highly anticipated adaptation of Erik Larson’s true-crime book, ‘The Devil in the White City’. With a star-studded cast and a legendary director at the wheel, the new crime drama is sure to be another film classic.
