Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom have gone their separate ways, ending their six-year engagement, PEOPLE has confirmed. Although the couple had been rumored to be on the outs for months, they had always held a unified front in public life, continuing to show up at events together and exchange cordial greetings. Back in March, in an interview with Rolling Stone, Katy, 40, had actually gushed about the family life she shared with Orlando, 48, and their daughter Daisy Dove. “I’m proud of my family life, my home life. and the foundation I have,” she had said.
The news of their breakup comes as Katy is in Australia for her Lifetimes tour, and Orlando has just arrived in Venice for Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez’s celebrity wedding weekend. Neither of them has made a comment on the breakup.
A Nearly Decade-Long Love Story
The two started dating in January of 2016 but broke up just over a year later. Their period of separation, though, was short-lived, and they were back together by early 2018. On Valentine’s Day 2019, Orlando proposed to Katy in a moment she would subsequently look back on with fondness on Jimmy Kimmel Live: “It was very sweet. It was Valentine’s Day. we went to dinner and I thought we were going to go see some art after dinner but we pulled up to a helicopter. We did land on a rooftop, my entire family was there, and all of my friends. He did so great,” she exclaimed.
Katy revealed in March 2020 that she was pregnant, describing it as “probably the longest secret (she’s) ever had to keep.” Their daughter Daisy Dove was born on August 27 of that year. The couple reportedly had planned to marry the same year, but the COVID-19 pandemic threw those plans awry.
Signs of Strain Emerged
Over the years, Katy had often referred to herself as Orlando’s ‘new wife’, even appearing publicly with his ex-wife Miranda Kerr. During an event, Katy praised their positive relationship, saying: “Some of you might be confused about why I’m introducing Miranda, that doesn’t play into the antiquated narrative of ex-wives and new wives. And yes, it’s true, the majority of the media would like to have us mud wrestle, even (her husband) Evan, but we are here to lead by love because Miranda is love,” PEOPLE reported her saying.
But cracks in the relationship emerged earlier in 2024. Tensions grew after backlash over Katy’s space journey and the high pressure of her Lifetimes tour, ET reported. These aspects allegedly put pressure on their relationship, causing increasing distance between the two.
With the news now confirmed in June, fans wonder was Orlando Bloom ‘the one that got away’?
