The international festival nominated ‘All We Imagine As Light’ film by filmmaker Payal Kapadia lost to the French musical crime film Emilia Perez in the Best Film Not in the English Language category at the 78th British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA).
The BAFTAs were held on February 16, 2025, in London, where, directed by Jacques Audiard, Emilia Perez also won a BAFTA for Zoe Saldana for Best Supporting Actress.
The Emilia Perez film is still elated even though Karla Sofía Gascón was the target of backlash after old tweets marking her as a malefactor towards Islam and racist notions lit up once again.
This film scored high with critics and audiences for its powerful storylines and performances. It is the life story of Emilia, a former cartel leader in Mexico transitioning into a woman who banks on an undervalued lawyer called Rita (played by Saldana) to help her establish a new life of authenticity and escape her former turbulent past.
