Zelenskyy Pushes For Peace Talks Under Trump Leadership, Says Oval Office Clash “Regrettable”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he would be ready to enter into peace talks “as soon as possible” led by US President Donald Trump. “We are ready to take the first steps toward ending this war, to start with freeing the hostages and an instant ceasefire in the air and in the sea on condition that Russia does the same,” Reuters reported.

On his social media X platform, Zelenskyy reaffirmed Ukraine’s support for attaining a durable peace, saying, “My colleagues and I are prepared to labour under President Trump’s leadership to achieve a peace that endures.” He delineated that humanitarian steps could form the starting point of talks and include prisoner exchange and a air and naval cease-fire.

Zelenskyy also spoke about his recent encounter with President Trump at the Oval Office, terming it “regrettable” and observing that their White House meeting “did not go the way it was supposed to.” In spite of this, he had hoped for mending ties and continuing with diplomatic efforts.

Moreover, Zelenskyy confirmed Ukraine’s willingness to sign a minerals and security agreement with the United States “at any time and in any format.” He called the agreement a very important step towards increased security and firm guarantees, expressing hope that it would be effective.

The comments by the Ukrainian leader follow widespread international efforts at negotiating peace, with Washington at the forefront of initiatives. His words reflect willingness to negotiate while reiterating Ukraine’s stand on conditions needed to de-escalate.
