US President Donald Trump has brushed off French President Emmanuel Macron’s assertion that he departed the G7 Summit in Canada prematurely to craft an Iran-Israel ceasefire. Trump described the actual reason for his premature return to Washington as “much bigger” than a ceasefire and accused Macron of craving publicity and disseminating misinformation.

He made the comments on Truth Social soon after the White House confirmed his premature departure. The spat highlights intense diplomatic strains in the midst of a growing Middle East crisis.

Trump Denies Macron’s Ceasefire Remark

Emmanuel Macron had informed journalists that the US had made a diplomatic proposal to Iran. He stated, “There was an offer made for a meeting and an exchange.” He further added, “If the United States can get a ceasefire, it is a very good thing.”

But Trump was quick to dismiss that. On Truth Social, he posted, “Publicity seeking President Emmanuel Macron, of France, falsely said that I departed the G7 Summit, in Canada, to return to DC to work on a ‘cease fire’ between Israel and Iran.”

He asserted definitively, “Wrong! He has no notion why I am headed today to Washington, but it has absolutely nothing to do with a Cease Fire. Much larger than that. Whether intentionally or not, Emmanuel always comes out wrong. Stay Tuned!”

White House Confirms Early Departure

US President Trump had originally intended to remain in Canada through late Tuesday. But the White House rescheduled. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt revealed, “President Trump will head back to Washington tonight so he can address several pressing matters.”

She made no reference to a ceasefire or elaborate on the need.

Trump Cranks Up Pressure on Iran

Even at the summit, Trump indicated increasing pressure on Iran. He tweeted on Truth Social: “Everyone should immediately leave Tehran!”

Although he did not explain, the tweet implied a potential escalation. In his comments to journalists, Trump said he could broker a deal to stop the fighting, which started last week.

Trump’s reaction to Macron reveals a widening divide among influential Western partners. While France advocates for diplomacy, Trump portends a tougher, high-risk strategy. His failure to define the “much bigger” motive contributes to international tension and raises doubts regarding US strategy within the Middle East.
