Apple has officially named Sabih Khan as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO). He will succeed Jeff Williams, who has held the role for several years. Apple stated that this change is “part of a long-planned succession.”
Who Is Sabih Khan?
Sabih Khan was born in 1966 in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, India. During his school years, he and his family moved to Singapore. Later, he relocated to the United States for higher studies and work.
His Academic Background
Khan completed his bachelor’s degree in Economics and Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University. He also earned a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).
His Career at Apple
Khan joined Apple in 1995 and has been part of the company for nearly 30 years. He served in many roles during this time. According to Apple, he has “played an important role in delivering each of Apple’s innovative products to market.”
Before Apple, he worked at GE Plastics as an applications development engineer and key account technical leader.
Transition to COO Role
Currently, Khan serves as Apple’s Senior Vice President of Operations and reports directly to COO Jeff Williams. However, by the end of this month, he will officially take over as COO.
Although Williams will step down as COO, he will still be active at Apple. He will oversee the company’s design team and continue to lead Apple’s health-related initiatives.
What Tim Cook Said
Apple’s CEO Tim Cook praised Sabih Khan’s contributions and leadership. He said, “Sabih is a brilliant strategist who has been one of the central architects of Apple’s supply chain.”
Cook added, “While overseeing Apple’s supply chain, he has helped pioneer new technologies in advanced manufacturing, overseen the expansion of Apple’s manufacturing footprint in the United States, and helped ensure that Apple can be nimble in response to global challenges.”
He also noted that Khan has supported Apple’s strong push toward environmental sustainability.
