Anand Mahindra Sets the Record Straight on Luxury Car Claims

Anand Mahindra

Industrialist Anand Mahindra has clarified the types of vehicles he owns, dispelling rumors that he drives foreign luxury cars. This response came after a false story circulated, claiming that Mahindra owned high-end cars like a Ferrari, Porsche, and Mercedes-Benz. Mahindra, a strong supporter of the “Make in India” initiative, affirmed that he exclusively drives vehicles made by Mahindra & Mahindra.

The issue arose when a user on X questioned why Mahindra was allegedly using foreign cars. In response, Mahindra stated, “I was taught to drive by my mother in her light sky-blue Premier car, which she named ‘BlueBird.’ Since joining Mahindra in 1991, I have only driven vehicles manufactured by our company.”

Currently, Mahindra drives a red Mahindra Scorpio N, a model made by his own company, and occasionally uses his wife’s silver Mahindra XUV 700. He also addressed a photo circulating online of him standing in front of a foreign car. He clarified that the image was taken at Monterey Car Week during the launch of Mahindra’s Battista electric hypercar, and the car shown, a classic Cisitalia, was designed by Pininfarina, which is owned by Mahindra.

Hormazd Sorabjee, editor of Autocar India, supported Mahindra’s statement, confirming that for the last 30 years, he has only driven Mahindra vehicles. Sorabjee tweeted, “It’s not just made-in-India, it’s made-in-Mahindra for Anand Mahindra who has owned & driven ONLY a Mahindra for the last 30+ years.”

Mahindra also shared a list of the vehicles he has owned and driven. After learning to drive in his mother’s Premier car, he moved on to a soft-top Mahindra CJ3 UV, followed by a Hindustan Motors Contessa upon joining Mahindra & Mahindra. When the hard-top Armada was launched, he switched to that, followed by other Mahindra models like the Bolero, Scorpio Classic, XUV 5OO, and now the Scorpio N. Since the release of the Armada, he stated, he has never owned or used a vehicle from any other brand.
