Malayalam star Unni Mukundan has confirmed that a sequel to his hit action film, Marco, is no longer happening. On June 14, he shared the news on Instagram, explaining that he decided to drop Marco 2 because of the “too much negativity” surrounding the project.

Unni Mukundan Confirms ‘Marco 2’ Cancelled

The revelation came when a fan commented under a transformation video Unni posted on his Instagram, asking, “Marco 2 kab ayegi?” (When will Marco 2 release?). The actor replied honestly, “Bro, apologies but I have dropped plans to continue the Marco series. Too much negativity around the project. I’ll try my best to bring something bigger and better than Marco. Thanks for all the love and positivity. Cheers.”

His response stirred disappointment among fans, especially those eagerly waiting for a follow-up after Marco’s major box office success. The action-packed film, directed by Haneef Adeni, was a spin-off of Unni’s character from the 2019 movie Mikhael, which starred Nivin Pauly in the lead.

The “negativity” Unni referred to may point to the controversies the film drew for its graphic violence.*Marco* stirred major debate for its intense violence. After its release, the CBFC reportedly denied it satellite rights, and many even demanded a ban on its OTT release, linking its content to rising youth violence in Kerala.

Actor Promises Fans a “Bigger and Better” Film

Despite the backlash, Marco boasted a talented cast, including Kabir Duhan Singh, Yukti Thareja, Anson Paul, Siddique, Arjun Nandakumar, Durva Thaker, and Abhimanyu Shammy Thilakan.

The film’s music was composed by Ravi Basrur of KGF fame, with cinematography by Chandru Selvaraj and editing by Shameer Muhammed. It was produced by Shareef Muhammed under Cubes Entertainments, in collaboration with Unni Mukundan Films.

Though Marco 2 won’t be happening, Unni Mukundan has promised his fans something even more thrilling in the near future.
