Sonakshi Sinha recently addressed her marriage to Zaheer Iqbal, providing insight into the speculation and scrutiny surrounding their relationship. The comments made by her father, veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha, along with the absence of her brothers, Luv and Kussh, at the wedding, fueled speculation regarding her family’s position.

In an interview with Hauterrfly, Sonakshi made it clear that while her father was supportive, she opted not to discuss her brothers’ absence. She also rejected assertions that Zaheer’s family coerced her into converting to Islam.

Religion Was Never an Issue

Sonakshi stressed that religion was never a factor in their relationship. “Zaheer and I weren’t really focused on religion. We are two individuals who care for one another and wish to marry,” she explained.

She added, “He didn’t impose his religion on me, and I’m not imposing my religion on him. This wasn’t even a topic of conversation. ”

Mutual Respect for Each Other’s Traditions

The actress underscored how she and Zaheer honor and embrace one another’s cultures. “They observe certain traditions at their house, I observe certain traditions at my house. He takes part in my Diwali pooja, and I participate in his rituals. And that’s all that matters,” she noted.

Special Marriage Act Was the Best Choice

Sonakshi remarked that the Special Marriage Act offered the best legal pathway for their marriage. “Given the circumstances, the ideal way to marry was under the Special Marriage Act, where I, as a Hindu woman, do not have to change my religion, and he, as a Muslim man, can remain a Muslim. It’s as straightforward as that. I was never questioned, ‘Are you going to convert? ‘ We are in love, and we are going to marry. ”

Handling Online Negativity

Concerning the online backlash, Sonakshi shared that she and Zaheer muted Instagram comments prior to their wedding to steer clear of unwarranted negativity. “On my big day, mujhe yeh bakwas dekhni hi nahi hai (I didn’t want to be near this nonsense),” she stated.

Sonakshi and Zaheer wedded on June 23 last year after being in a relationship for nearly seven years.
