Businessman and Karisma Kapoor’s former husband, Sunjay Kapur, died on June 12 while participating in a polo match in England. According to sources, he suffered a heart attack and reportedly swallowed a bee, though the exact cause of death will be confirmed after his post-mortem. The incident has not only shocked many but has also revived public interest in Karisma’s turbulent past with him.
Randhir Kapoor’s Explosive Interview Goes Viral
Following news of Sunjay’s passing, an old interview of Karisma’s father, Randhir Kapoor, is now making rounds on social media. Speaking to Hindustan Times during the time of Karisma and Sunjay’s divorce in 2016, Randhir had openly condemned Sunjay’s behaviour.
“Sunjay is a third-class man… Everyone knows our credentials. We are Kapoors. We don’t need to run after anyone’s money. We have been blessed with not only money, but our talent can support us for the rest of our lives,” he said.
Randhir further added, “I never wanted Karisma marrying him. He never cared for his wife. He has been giving bull**** to her and living with another woman. The entire Delhi knows how he is. I would not like to say anything more than this.”
Divorce and Alimony
Karisma Kapoor married Sunjay Kapur in 2003 after breaking off her engagement with Abhishek Bachchan. The couple filed for divorce in 2014, which was finalised in 2016. The legal proceedings were marked by serious allegations: Karisma accused Sunjay of domestic abuse, while Sunjay claimed she married him for financial gain.
Post-divorce, Karisma received custody of their two children—Samaira and Kiaan—while Sunjay was granted visitation rights. As reported by DNA, Sunjay paid Karisma ₹70 crore in alimony and invested ₹14 crore in bonds for the children, yielding ₹10 lakh annually in interest, according to ANI.
Sunjay’s sudden death has reopened public conversation around his controversial past and the stormy marriage that made headlines nearly a decade ago.
