Abhishek Bachchan, who recently completed 25 years in the film industry, shared heartfelt thoughts on his evolving choice of roles and how his personal life has influenced them. In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, the actor opened up about his role in the upcoming film Kaalidhar Laapata. The film is based on a man who sacrifices his dreams for his family.
Aaradhya Inspires Abhishek’s On-Screen Fatherhood
“The theme struck a chord with me… it’s never too late to go and try and fulfil a dream that hasn’t been fulfilled,” Abhishek said, adding, “I don’t look upon that as a midlife crisis, but there are a lot of us that have sacrificed a lot for our families and finally realise… what about me?”
This deeper understanding of paternal characters stems from his relationship with his daughter, Aaradhya Bachchan. Abhishek explained, “I don’t think I am actively seeking such roles but I have noticed the common thread and I attribute it to the most beautiful woman in the world, my daughter.”
He added, “Artists go through phases in life… I understood that paternal emotion in those [films] because I was also witnessing and experiencing that in my real life… I don’t know if Aaradhya wasn’t around whether I’d still be experiencing those emotions or feel them as acutely.”
Big B’s Public Praise Leaves Abhishek Bachchan Red-Faced
Alongside his reflections on fatherhood, Abhishek also addressed the heartfelt praise his father, Amitabh Bachchan, regularly posts about him online.
While many see these moments as touching, Abhishek admitted he often finds them embarrassing.
“When Hope, I can call him (Amitabh) my fan,” he said jokingly. “I think he’s an overzealous, emotional father right now, and that’s the one thing I love about him… He is doing a lot of it now. You can’t blame him, he is 83.”
He concluded, “Most people forget that apart from being the great Amitabh Bachchan, he is also a father… I feel very embarrassed when he writes all the things, I don’t know how to respond.”
