Actor Arun Govil, who portrayed Lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, remains uncertain about whether any current Bollywood superstar can do justice to the role. His comments follow the backlash received by Adipurush, starring Prabhas and Kriti Sanon. The film, based on the Ramayana, faced severe criticism for its visual effects and dialogues. Then there is Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi-starrer Ramayan.
Disapproval by Arun Govil of Modern Recreations
In an interview with NDTV, Arun said, “Three-four people tried recreating it, [but] they were not successful. I don’t think in our lifetime someone should try to recreate Ramayan. As far as some actor playing Ram [is concerned], all the available actors, all the stars at this moment I don’t think anyone is suitable. Maybe you can find someone outside the industry.”
Arun acted out Lord Ram as Dipika Chikhlia essayed the role of Goddess Sita in the extremely popular and highly acclaimed 1987 TV series.
Anticipation for Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi’s Ramayan
For the uninitiated, audiences eagerly await the upcoming Ramayana movie. Last year, leaked set photos offered fans a first look at Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi as Ram and Sita.
Praise from Maharashtra CM for Upcoming Ramayana
During the Waves Summit 2025 last month, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis hailed the film and said, “I was amazed to see the quality of Ramayana that you are creating. I think this is the way we need to tell our stories to the new generation, and I believe what you are setting up will be the best in the globe.”
Helmed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana features an impressive cast, with KGF star Yash playing Ravana. The movie also features Sunny Deol, Ravi Dubey, and Lara Dutta in leading roles. The film will release in two parts: Diwali 2026 and 2027.
