Qatar Airways has reached a major milestone in its Starlink high-speed internet rollout, equipping its 30th aircraft with the service. The airline is the largest global carrier to offer Starlink and has now installed the technology on over 50% of its Boeing 777 fleet.
This rapid progress comes just four months after launching the world’s first Boeing 777 Starlink-enabled flight and two months after surpassing its initial 2024 target of 12 installations.
Rapid Installations Place Qatar Airways Head of the Rest
Qatar Airways has picked up the pace of its Starlink installation with remarkable speed, cutting installation time per aircraft to 9.5 hours from three days. The airline deliberately plans the upgrade within a 12-hour window overnight, thus not affecting flight schedules. Optimizing its procedure, Qatar Airways has shaved installation time by nearly three-quarters of its original figure, keeping its industry rivals at bay.
The carrier originally intended to finish Starlink installations on all its Boeing 777 aircraft in two years. But with its increased efficiency, the entire rollout is now likely to be finished by the second quarter of 2025. That will allow more passengers to have free high-speed internet, making streaming, live sports, online gaming, and remote work possible at 35,000 feet.
Commitment to Innovation and Excellence
Addressing Web Summit Qatar 2025, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer emphasized the airline’s focus on improving passenger experience.
We are fulfilling our pledge to offer our passengers the best in-flight connectivity at a record speed. Since we introduced the world’s first Boeing 777 Starlink-enabled flight four months ago, we have already rolled out the revolutionary service on 30 aircraft—well beyond our original expectations. This testifies to the excellent efficiency and commitment of our staff. Starlink Wi-Fi is a game-changer for our travelers who will be able to enjoy seamless connectivity on even more routes very soon.
Setting New Industry Standards
Through the installation of new systems to replace old ones utilizing cutting-edge Starlink technology with uncompromising safety protocols, Qatar Airways is simplifying a complex process and becoming more efficient than the industry standard. Through one of the fastest Starlink rollouts in the airline industry, the carrier is rewriting the rules on onboard connectivity and setting new industry standards for passenger experience.
