Labubu Dolls: Why Is Everyone From Lisa to Beckham Obsessed With It?

Human-sized Labubu dolls and their massive sales have surprised collectors and sparked global attention. Sold for $150,000 at a major auction in Beijing, this 131cm figurine has become the most expensive Labubu ever. The quirky monster character, created by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung, was once a small trend but is now a popular collectible.

Thanks to celebrity buzz and social media trends, Labubu toys are in high demand, turning from cheap toys into luxury items.

Human-Sized Labubu Dolls Sale Breaks Record

At the Yongle International Auction in Beijing, the large Labubu sold for 1.08 million yuan. That’s a big jump from its usual price of 50 yuan. The auction focused only on Labubu dolls, with 48 items sold and nearly 200 people attending. The event made a total of 3.37 million yuan.

This high price shows how much the value of collectible toys has changed. Labubu, sold by Pop Mart, stands out with its monster-like look and cute design. What began as a simple toy now has serious value due to limited stock and online hype. People of all ages now collect these figures as status items.

How Celebrities Made Labubu a Global Sensation?

Pop Mart’s popularity has grown as a result of strong celebrity support. David Beckham, Lisa from Blackpink, Rihanna, and Dua Lipa have all posted pictures of themselves with their Labubu dolls. Their influence has helped Labubu go viral on TikTok and Instagram, where fans are quickly picking up on the trend, boosting the toy’s fame and value.

Earlier in 2024, Pop Mart pulled Labubu dolls from UK stores after fights broke out over them. But instead of fading, the hype only grew. In the same year, Pop Mart doubled its revenue to 13 million yuan and opened stores in five new countries, including Italy and Spain.

Pop Mart has emerged as a major force in the global toy market as a result of the record-breaking sales of human-sized Labubu dolls and the worldwide celebrity hype.
