Six Sri Lankan soldiers died when a helicopter crashed into the Maduru Oya reservoir while on a training exercise, an Air Force spokesperson confirmed on Friday.
The Bell 212 helicopter was carrying 12 members of the armed forces and crashed while conducting a grappling exercise as part of a military passing-out parade in central Sri Lanka.
Four special forces personnel and two Air Force shooters were killed in action,” said Air Force spokesperson Group Captain Eranda Geeganage.
No reason for the crash has been given by the authorities yet. The Air Force said investigations were underway and information would be given in due course.
