BJP leader and businessman Gopal Khemka was killed in a shot by a bike-borne attacker on Friday night in Bihar capital Patna, police said. The chilling murder occurred in the same manner as the killing of his son, Gunjan Khemka, six years ago.
As per police, Gopal Khemka had returned to his residence in the Ramgulam Chowk locality around 11 pm. He had just come back from visiting the Bankipur Club. “The moment he got down from his two-wheeler, an attacker shot him from close range, and the bike-borne attacker was able to escape. He was taken to a private hospital immediately, where the doctor pronounced him dead,” informed a senior police official.
The attacker discharged several rounds of 9mm bullets as the victim remained within his car, the police further added. Police have not been able to establish the reason behind the murder.
DGP Directs STF and CID Support
Bihar’s Director General of Police (DGP) Binay Kumar has ordered the Special Task Force (STF) to support the Patna Police in the investigation. He has also directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to assist in the probe.

Gunjan Khemka Murder Case Still Haunts
The murder on the night of Friday also bears a close resemblance to the killing of Gopal Khemka’s son, Gunjan Khemka. Gunjan was the owner of G K Cotton Mill. He was shot dead on December 20, 2018, outside his factory gate within Hajipur Industrial Estate in Vaishali district. The case is still unsolved.
Political Reactions Pour In
Meanwhile, Independent Purnea MP Pappu Yadav (Rajesh Ranjan) went to the place of the murder. Subsequently, he came down heavily on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
“Bihar is a den for criminals now! Nitish ji, spare Bihar,” he tweeted on X. He further added, “Seven years ago, Gopal Khemka ji’s son Gunjan Khemka was murdered… if the government at that time had not become a partner to the criminals… Gopal Khemka ji would not have been murdered today!”
