Chrystofer A. Whyte, an 18-year-old social media influencer with more than 100,000 followers on TikTok, was senselessly shot and murdered on a New Jersey beach on June 12. The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office reports that two individuals are now in custody in relation to the crime.
One of the suspects, whose name cannot be stated because he is a minor, is being detained in a juvenile detention center on charges of murder. Another suspect, an 18-year-old named Dwayne Exilus, suspected to be the accomplice of the minor, is charged with several things, including second-degree attempted unlawful possession of a weapon.
Police officers from the Long Branch Police Department were dispatched to Pier Village in Long Branch on a report of a shooting at 8:58 p.m. on June 12. They found Whyte with one gunshot wound. The North Brunswick man was declared dead at the scene. Authorities have confirmed that an investigation is underway.

Who was Chrystofer Whyte and What Did he Post Last?
Identified on TikTok by the username hi.imchrys, Whyte had uploaded two videos to the app earlier in the day. In one, he told his followers to “Stay away from ppl that ignore you until they need you.”
Whyte also posted a video from the same beach where he would die, and captioned it with the hashtag #longbranch. The video was him sitting in a beach chair relaxing and proved to be his last post.
Aside from his online presence, Whyte was a Woodbridge High School student-athlete who wrestled and played football. His old football coach, Joseph LaSala, spoke positively of him, saying, “Chrys was an amazing kid. He brought enthusiasm and energy every day.”
LaSala, who coached Whyte for three years, said, “This is heartbreaking,” calling him kind and driven.
In the meantime, Whyte’s close friend Jaiden Roche has created a GoFundMe to assist with funeral costs. The fundraiser has already raised close to $16,000.
