Donald Trump Calls Elon Musk a ‘Wonderful Guy’ Despite Outburst Over Senate’s Big Bill

Donald Trump responded calmly to Elon Musk’s recent online outbursts over the Senate’s draft bill, calling the Tesla CEO a “wonderful guy” despite growing tensions. The president addressed Musk’s concerns and behaviour during a Fox News interview, blaming the disagreement on electric vehicle mandates and saying Musk simply “got a little upset.”

Donald Trump Reacts to Musk’s Criticism

In the Sunday interview with Maria Bartiromo on Fox News, Donald Trump said he still viewed Elon Musk positively, even after Musk posted a now-deleted tweet linking Trump to Jeffrey Epstein. “I think he’s a wonderful guy. I haven’t spoken to him much, but I think Elon is a wonderful guy, and I know he’s going to do well always,” Trump said. “He’s a smart guy… But he got a little bit upset, and that wasn’t appropriate.”

Trump said Musk’s anger likely came from worries about the electric vehicle mandate included in the bill. He explained, “The electric vehicle mandate, the EV mandate, is a tough thing for him. I don’t want everybody to have to have an electric car.”

Trump’s response suggested a desire to ease tensions while still addressing policy disagreements.

Musk Slams Draft Bill

Musk, who turned 54 on Saturday, lashed out at the revised Senate draft bill in a post on X. He warned it would “destroy millions of jobs in America” and increase taxes on wind and solar projects. He wrote, “The latest Senate draft bill will destroy millions of jobs in America and cause immense strategic harm to our country! Utterly insane and destructive.”

Earlier in June, Musk had already condemned the bill’s initial version. He said it was a “massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill” and called it a “disgusting abomination.” In another post, he wrote, “Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong.”

The revised bill, introduced by Senator Lindsey Graham, aims to be finalised and delivered to the president by July 4.
