Trump claims he will “get the conflict solved with North Korea,” as questions swirl over whether he sent a letter to Kim Jong Un. At a recent Oval Office event, Trump highlighted his diplomatic efforts and hinted at the possibility of renewed talks with Pyongyang.
While he did not confirm if he had written to Kim, he made it clear he values their past relationship, suggesting communication may soon resume.
Trump Remarks Raise Speculation
When asked directly about the rumoured letter to Kim Jong Un, Trump sidestepped the question but said, “I’ve had a good relationship with Kim Jong Un and get along with him, really great. So we’ll see what happens.” He also added, “Somebody’s saying there’s a potential conflict, I think we’ll work it out. If there is, it wouldn’t involve us.”
His comments came after NK News reported that North Korea’s UN delegation refused to accept a letter from Trump. The White House hasn’t confirmed if he sent a new message to Kim, but did say on June 11 that Trump would welcome renewed communication.
During Trump’s first term, he met Kim three times and exchanged what he called “beautiful” letters. Although those talks eventually collapsed in 2019, Trump still insists he can resolve the long-standing conflict if given the chance again.
Current Stance of North Korea
North Korea has made no effort to return to the negotiation table since 2019. Instead, the country has expanded its nuclear weapons program and built stronger ties with Russia. North Korea has directly supported Moscow’s war in Ukraine by sending both weapons and troops, and this has raised new global concerns.
The U.S. President has recently acknowledged that North Korea is now a “nuclear power,” which shows a shift from earlier U.S. demands for denuclearisation. Despite the growing threats, Trump appears confident that his approach can still work.
