‘We’re Just Good Friends’: Raducanu Clears Air on Carlos Alcaraz

Emma Raducanu has shut down rumours linking her romantically to Carlos Alcaraz. The buzz grew after the US Open announced the two would pair up for the new mixed doubles format in August.

Before Wimbledon 2025, Raducanu practiced with Alcaraz. When asked if they were working on doubles strategy, she replied, “No, it was fun yesterday. We were both on court with Evian.” She added, “We were just getting some volley practicing ahead of New York. I’m really happy obviously to be playing with him. We had a good time yesterday.”

“We’re Just Good Friends,” Says Raducanu

Later in the press conference, a reporter asked about the dating rumours. Raducanu smiled and responded, “We’re just good friends.” The moderator quickly ended the session, and Raducanu laughed, saying, “Way to wrap up!”

Danielle Collins Teases Raducanu

Former world number seven Danielle Collins reacted to the viral clip. She joked on social media, calling Raducanu a “heartbreaker.” Collins commented, “Brutal!! @emmaraducanu such a heartbreaker.”

Raducanu Recalls How the Friendship Began

Earlier this month, Raducanu explained how her friendship with Alcaraz started. She said, “I’ve known him for years. Actually, Wimbledon 2021 was kind of the first time I started getting to know him.”

She remembered their tournament runs that year. “He was always playing the day before me,” she said. “I would see him win, and then I would have motivation to win and get into that position too.”

She recalled Alcaraz’s big win over Tsitsipas in the third round. She said, “It was his breakout kind of win on a big stage. It was really cool to go through that tournament together.”

Old Bonds Still Matter

Raducanu said they stayed in touch during the US Open and kept their friendship strong. “We have a good relationship still. He’s obviously overtaken me a lot, but it’s nice that we have that from a while ago,” she said.

She spoke about valuing old friendships. “When you become a bit more known or successful, you go back to people you knew when you were young,” she said. “That’s a real genuine connection. It gets very busy, and you meet more people, but the ones you’ve known for a long time mean a lot more.”
