Oslo police have formally charged Marius Borg Hoiby, the eldest son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, with multiple serious offenses including rape, sexual assault, and bodily harm, following an extensive investigation.
Hoiby, 28, who is also the stepson of Crown Prince Haakon, is at the center of a months-long inquiry that reportedly involves allegations from a “double-digit” number of victims. The case has drawn increasing public attention since a series of arrests in 2024 related to accusations of rape, bodily injury, and property damage.
Prosecutor Andreas Kruszewski confirmed that Hoiby has cooperated fully with authorities during the investigation, which involved the collection of evidence such as text messages, eyewitness accounts, and police searches.
The charges include one count of rape involving intercourse, two counts of rape without intercourse, four counts of sexual assault, and two counts of bodily harm. Kruszewski declined to provide the exact number of victims but confirmed it exceeded ten.
Defense attorney Petar Sekulic stated that Hoiby is treating the charges with seriousness but denies the majority of the allegations, especially those related to sexual violence and abuse.
“The accusations are grave, and Mr. Hoiby maintains his innocence in most cases,” Sekulic said.
The Norwegian royal palace has not issued a public statement in response to the charges.
Hoiby, who previously resided with the Crown Prince and Princess and their two children, now lives separately but nearby. Despite the charges, he remains free pending trial and is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
