Iran Confirms IRGC General Ali Shadmani Killed in Strikes, Vows Harsh Revenge

The leader of Iran’s top Revolutionary Guards’ command center, Ali Shadmani, died of injuries received last week from the Israeli attacks. According to Iranian media, the IRGC has pledged “harsh revenge” for the murder of the Major General.

The development takes meaning against the background of the recently imposed US-suggested ceasefire, which ended the 12-day long Israel-Iran war. US President Donald Trump on Tuesday stated that the truce is in place, going further by stating that Israel will no longer attack Iran and neither would Tehran re-develop its nuclear program.

Israel Confirms Killing Ali Shadmani in Tehran Raid

The Israeli forces had previously stated that they killed Ali Shadmani in a nighttime raid on a military “command centre in the middle of Tehran” last week. Israel had recognized Shadmani as Iran’s wartime head of the armed forces and highest-ranking military commander.

The claim by the Israeli military had been made on June 17, only four days after Shadmani’s predecessor, Gholam Ali Rashid, was assassinated in the first shock raid conducted by Israel.

Ali Shadmani Appointed as Commander of Khatam al-Anbia HQ

Ali Shadmani succeeded Rashid as the new commander of the Guards’ Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters, Tasnim news agency reported.

Shadmani was the closest person to Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to the Israel defense forces (IDF).

IDF added that Shadmani had also been the Commander of the Iranian Armed Forces’ Emergency Command and commanded both the IRGC and the Iranian army.

“At the start of the operation, he was appointed to command the Iranian Armed Forces after his predecessor, Alaa Ali Rashid, was eliminated in the opening strike of Operation “Rising Lion”,” the IDF had said last week in a statement.

Khatam al-Anbiya Oversaw Iran’s Combat Operations

The Khatam al-Anbiya command center, commanded by Shadmani, was allegedly in charge of overseeing combat operations and greenlighting Iran’s firepower plans.

Following his promotion to major general and appointment as the new commander of the Revolutionary Guard command center, Khamenei had summoned him to work on strategic and operational planning, and guidance in order to counter the threats and precisely identify the combat readiness of Iranian forces, Tasnim had reported.
