In a deeply disturbing case of caste-based violence, a Bhagwat Kathak (Bhagavad Gita reciter) from the Yadav community was brutally assaulted in Dadrapur village of Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah district. The victim, Mukutmani Singh Yadav, hailing from Kanpur, was allegedly targeted by individuals from the Brahmin community during a religious event for not being of the “expected” caste traditionally associated with Gita recitations.

Caste Identity Sparks Violence

According to The Free Press Journal, Mukutmani was invited by one Pappu Baba to lead a seven-day Bhagwat Katha in the Mahewa block’s Dadarpur village. However, upon discovering his caste identity, a group of locals turned violent. Mukutmani alleged that Pappu Baba, along with Atul, Manish, Dealer, and others, began assaulting him and his fellow team members.

“They beat me with shoes, shaved my head, and forced me to bow before the villagers’ feet,” he said. “I was also made to rub my nose on the feet of a woman devotee. They stole ₹25,000 and my gold chain before throwing me out of the village,” Mukutmani added.

Disturbing Video Goes Viral

A viral video shows a group of men forcibly shaving Mukutmani’s head while mocking him and demanding apologies. Some voices in the video are heard threatening him not to enter a Brahmin-majority village again. The footage has triggered widespread outrage on social media.

Police Action and Political Reaction

Following the incident, Mukutmani filed a police complaint and met with SSP Brijesh Kumar Srivastava, who called the attack “unacceptable” and assured swift legal action. An FIR has been registered against the accused under several sections of the Indian Penal Code.

The incident has sparked political reaction, with Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav condemning the act. Sharing the video, he wrote, “Our Constitution does not permit caste-based discrimination; this is a crime committed against the fundamental right to live with dignity and respect.” He demanded immediate and strict action from the authorities.
