Explosions Rock Iraq’s Camp Taji Just Minutes After Trump Declares Israel-Iran Ceasefire

Tensions flared in Iraq just as hopes for peace began to rise. In a dramatic turn of events, explosions rocked the Camp Taji military base north of Baghdad early Tuesday, moments after US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran.

According to local military officials, an unidentified drone struck the base’s radar system, resulting in significant material damage. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, the Iraqi state news agency confirmed.

Military Base on Fire — Social Media Videos Emerge

Videos shared on social platform X showed flames engulfing sections of the military installation, with some users claiming that both a surface-to-air missile launcher and radar site were targeted.

“Radars were bombed at Taji camp, unclear who did it,” one user posted, while another speculated, “Surface-to-air missile system destroyed — base on fire.”

The attack has fueled speculation, with many questioning whether it was a rogue retaliation or a coordinated disruption to the ceasefire declaration.

Trump’s Sudden Ceasefire Announcement

The explosions came minutes after Trump took to Truth Social to declare a “complete and total ceasefire” between Israel and Iran, scheduled to be implemented in phases over the next 12 hours.

“Congratulations to Israel and Iran for their courage and intelligence,” Trump wrote, calling it the end of what he dubbed “The 12 Day War.”

Behind-the-Scenes Diplomacy

According to a White House official, Trump brokered the deal in a call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with Iranian officials also being contacted.

US Vice-President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff were reportedly instrumental in negotiations.

The terms, as per US sources, include Iran not launching any fresh attacks, while Israel agrees to halt military action if the condition is upheld.

Peace at Risk?

While the world watches for signs of regional stability, the sudden strike on Camp Taji raises questions:
Was this a last-ditch attack by a rogue element? Or could this derail the newly declared ceasefire?

With no claim of responsibility and tensions still simmering, the next few hours will be crucial.
