23-Year-Old Punjabi Student Killed in Australia Truck Crash

23-Year-Old Punjabi Student Killed in Australia Truck Crash

Arshpreet Singh Khahra, a 23-year-old Indian student who moonlighted as a truck driver, lost his life in a ghastly crash near Perth, Western Australia. Hailing from Tarn Taran in Punjab, Arshpreet had migrated to Australia to study, taking up the challenge of balancing work and academics in an alien country.

The accident took place about 8:15 am on Tuesday on the Great Eastern Highway at the intersection of Old Northam Road in Wooroloo, north-east of Perth, 7 News Australia reported. Arshpreet was driving a white Volvo truck when the truck skidded off the road, crashed through a barrier, overturned, and exploded into flames.

Emergency workers, including firefighters and paramedics, were quickly at the scene. Arshpreet, however, was alone in the truck and was found dead inside the burning truck and was declared dead on the spot.

Family Shattered

In India, Arshpreet’s family in Tarn Taran is still in shock. They have begged the government to speed up the process of repatriating his body.

“He had come to Australia on an international student visa,” Sea7 Australia stated.

“On hearing the news of his death, the villagers are in shock and have asked the Government to bring the body to India as quickly as possible.”

The Australian Punjabi community also mourned the tragedy.

Investigation Underway

Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash. Images at the scene depict the truck being crushed in two and charred beyond recognition. The truck was severely damaged, and officials are in the process of trying to establish what caused the tragic accident.

This accident puts Western Australia’s road death toll in 2025 at 93, which is the highest recorded by this point in the year in more than a decade.

Arshpreet Singh Khahra’s untimely demise has left his family, village, and broader community devastated, waiting for answers and hoping for a proper repatriation of their beloved.
