A Pune couple was reportedly robbed of gold ornaments worth Rs. 75,000 by two unidentified individuals who posed as good Samaritans following a road accident. It happened around 10 pm on Thursday near Shriram Chowk in Tilekarnagar, Kondhwa.

According to a report by TOI, 32-year-old Sachin Sanjay Mahajan and his wife were returning home from Yewalewadi when their motorcycle slipped after hitting a pothole, causing both of them to fall. Mahajan, a shop owner based in Kondhwa, said he briefly lost consciousness while his wife suffered minor injuries on her hands.

Shortly after the fall, two men came to the couple, who seemed like Good Samaritans. The men helped pick up the motorcycle and parked it in the right manner. Appreciative of the act, the couple thanked the men as they were about to leave the scene.

But while talking to his wife soon after the accident, Mahajan realized his gold chain worth Rs. 75,000 was gone. The couple checked thoroughly around but could not locate it and suspected the two men who had just assisted them. They later found that their motorcycle keys were also stolen.

Realizing they had been robbed, the couple went straight to Kondhwa Police Station to lodge a complaint.

A Kondhwa police officer informed TOI, “He came and made a complaint. Investigations are on.” Mahajan, who is also employed with a private company, had started a shop selling disposable items in Tilekarnagar.

Senior Police Inspector Vinay Patankar told the Free Press Journal (FPJ) that CCTV footage of the spot is being analyzed. He assured, “The snatchers will be arrested soon.” The case has been registered under Sections 303(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
