In India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took charge of the celebrations from the scenic coastline of Visakhapatnam. With naval vessels deployed off the shore providing a regal backdrop, he called yoga a “beyond age” gift that unites humanity in “health and harmony.

The United Nations formally declared the International Day of Yoga in 2014 after India brought a resolution, supported by a historic 175 member states.
