Meghan Markle Reflects on Going Viral for Her ‘Baby Momma’ Dance

Meghan Markle has looked back on the since-viral “Baby Momma Dance” video she shared in early June, describing it as a glimpse into her “real, authentic, and fun life.” The Duchess of Sussex shared the clip on June 4 to Instagram to commemorate her daughter Lilibet’s fourth birthday.

The video, which was initially shot in a hospital room prior to Lilibet’s delivery, shows Meghan dancing with Prince Harry to the hit song “The Baby Momma Dance.” In the caption, she jokingly posted, “Both of our babies were a week overdue… so when spicy food, all that walking, and acupuncture did not work there was only one thing left to do!” She said the video was taken precisely four years ago.

Speaking about the clip on the most recent episode of the Aspire with Emma Grede podcast, Meghan remembered the enjoyable memory and reiterated her focus on sharing more real moments in her life, particularly as she grows her lifestyle business, American Riviera Orchard. According to People magazine, Meghan concurred with host Emma Grede on authenticity when she stated, “You have to be authentic,” then laughed and asked, “Did you see my ‘Baby Momma’ dance?

Though the video was lavished with accolades for its warmth and spontaneity, it also elicited some backlash. Meghan referenced this on the podcast but reiterated her purpose of the post. “That was four years ago,” she said. “So it’s also a really great reminder that with all the noise or whatever people do, there’s still a whole life, a real, authentic, fun life that’s happening behind the scenes.”

She also commented on how important it is to have control over how and when she posts about aspects of her life to the public. “I’m just thankful that now, being back on social as well, I have a space where I can share it on my own terms,” Meghan said.
