A deeply disturbing incident unfolded in Gwalior’s Sikandar Kampu area, where a young man, identified as Ajay Kushwaha, set himself ablaze outside his girlfriend’s residence following her refusal to marry him. The tragedy occurred around 12:30 am on Friday night in Patia Wale Baba Mohalla.
According to reports, Ajay doused himself in petrol and ignited the fire outside the girl’s house. A shocking video of the incident, which has since gone viral, shows the youth engulfed in flames as bystanders watched in horror. The disturbing visuals were shared by the social media handle @FreePressMP.
Sustained 75% Burns, Succumbed During Treatment
The blaze spread rapidly, leaving Ajay with over 75 percent burns before anyone could intervene. Locals, stunned by the horrifying scene, rushed out of their homes, but the intensity of the flames made it difficult to rescue him immediately. Police arrived shortly after and rushed the victim to Jayarogya Hospital’s burn ward, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Sunday.

‘Youth Was Under Mental Stress,’ Say Police
Madhavganj police station in-charge Prashant Sharma confirmed that the youth was taken to the hospital immediately after the incident. “Initial investigation suggests that Ajay was under mental stress due to issues in his relationship,” Sharma said.
Ajay had reportedly been in a long-term friendship with a girl from the same locality. However, recent disputes had created emotional turmoil for him. The police have launched an investigation and are questioning both the girl’s family and local witnesses. “Further action will be based on the viral video and witness statements,” added Sharma.
