In a city that is witness to increasingly frequent traffic confrontations and road rage on the streets, a Bengaluru woman’s social media update has been a welcome relief from the usual. Her account of witnessing a peaceful and courteous road accident has been going viral for marking an unusual moment of decency on the streets.

She posted on X (formerly Twitter), detailing what she described as a ‘peaceful accident’.

“A cyclist ran into a car & crashed. The driver pulled the car over and waited for the rider. The rider pushed the bike over and asked the driver if he was injured. The driver asked the rider if he was OK and safe. They shook hands and parted their ways,” she wrote.

Unlike the usual hot exchanges that ensue minor accidents in Indian cities, this one was characterized by restraint and empathy, no shouting, no finger-wagging, just concern for each other and a handshake before going on separate ways.

Netizens in Amusement

The post tugged at the heartstrings of most users online, earning reactions that varied between amazement and surprise. One was amused to say, “They both must be either really very civil or matured, or both must have been in a hurry.”

Another replied in a lighthearted and skeptical vein, saying, “You sure this wasn’t a dream?” Some doubted if a situation like that could happen in India, while others lapped up the feel-good moment. “Thanks for posting some good news,” replied one. Another said, “Where was this? I saw this in Singapore. Don’t think it will happen in India.”

Even though the location of the incident was not disclosed, the tale struck a chord with most who are wary of Bengaluru’s infamous hectic traffic and incessant road rage. For some, it was a welcome reminder that respect and peace can still be found in the midst of urban madness.

As one user aptly said, “Seems both were gentlemen and preferred peace over anger.”

Amidst a city too frequently characterized by blaring horns and exploding tempers, even a brief moment of accord between strangers can renew one’s faith in humankind.
