A huge fire is still spreading in Burlington County, New Jersey, and authorities said that approximately 3,250 acres have already been burned. The fire is so far only 30 percent contained, and firefighters are still working on it.
In the meantime, the wildfires have had an effect beyond New Jersey. Thick smoke from the fires blew into Philadelphia and the surrounding areas, leading officials to declare air quality warnings because of deteriorating conditions.
The smoke is mostly being blown in from the Allen Road fire in Ocean County, which has added a lot to the haze over the area. Because of this, officials have put out a ‘Code Orange’ air quality warning.
The alert says, “the air is unhealthy for sensitive groups, including children, older adults, and people with respiratory conditions such as asthma.”
As the fires remain ongoing and containment remains in progress, residents in impacted areas are asked to remain indoors as much as possible and reduce outdoor activity, particularly those in susceptible health categories.
