Popular Punjabi influencer Kamal Kaur, who had more than 3.8 lakh followers on social media, was discovered dead inside a vehicle near Adesh Medical University in Bathinda on Wednesday evening, according to The Times of India. Popular for her blunt and frequently provocative Instagram Reels, Kaur was from Ludhiana and had a huge following for her witty but inciting posts.
The body was found after residents reported a stench emanating from a stationary car. In an X (formerly Twitter) post, Bathinda Police confirmed the find, though they didn’t name the victim.
The police team promptly reached the location and after investigating, found the body of a woman inside the car. The forensic unit has also arrived at the location and are doing a detailed investigation. Legal proceedings are being commenced on the basis of the findings. All the facts of the case will be probed and the culprits will be identified,” said a police officer.
Bathinda SP (City) Narinder Singh also spoke to the media, saying, “Prima facie, it looks like someone left the car here after committing the crime. The post-mortem report will throw light. The car seems to have forged registration number plates, and we are taking details from the transport officials.”
Who Was Kamal Kaur?
As reported by The Tribune, the influencer’s actual name was Kanchan Kumari and she was estimated to be around mid-30s. In October of last year, Kaur had allegedly been threatened by Canada-based Khalistani militant Arsh Dalla, who had allegedly threatened her not to post anything that he termed as “inappropriate.”.
Kaur was frequently the target of criticism for her foul-mouthed and provocative social media videos. Her last Instagram post, a picture of her wearing a black t-shirt—had been posted only three days prior to her body being discovered.
Preliminary investigations suggest foul play, and authorities are treating it as a potential case of murder. The forensic team is examining the scene, and police are working to identify those responsible.
