The program, which is yet to officially launch, promises a premium pathway to U.S. legal residency for a $5 million fee.
On Wednesday, Trump announced the opening of the registration portal via trumpcard.gov, where users can sign up for updates. He introduced the initiative on Truth Social, stating, “Thousands of people have been asking how to apply. Now, the waiting list is open for what will be a beautiful road to the greatest country and market in the world.”
What Is the ‘Gold Card’?
Marketed as a luxury immigration route, the Gold Card aims to provide benefits similar to the U.S. green card, but with fewer restrictions and a “higher level of sophistication.” Unlike the EB-5 visa, the Gold Card does not mandate job creation or investment in specific U.S. sectors. It is specifically designed to attract affluent individuals or those with exceptional talent.
Does It Grant Immediate Citizenship?
No. The Gold Card offers a route to citizenship but does not guarantee it upon payment. Trump described it as “somewhat like a green card, but at a higher level,” positioning it as a streamlined option for residency.
When Can You Apply?
As of now, applications are not open. The website only allows users to register for notifications. A message on the site reads, “Enter your information below to be notified the moment access opens.”
How It Differs from the EB-5 Visa
While the EB-5 visa requires a minimum investment of $800,000 to $1.05 million and the creation of at least 10 full-time jobs, the Gold Card does away with these stipulations. This makes it potentially more appealing for wealthy applicants seeking a simplified route to U.S. residency.
