Infamous influencer Andrew Tate has been caught speeding at 196km/h (121mph) in a 50km/h area in Romania, authorities have confirmed.
The British-American citizen was filmed driving at almost four times the speed limit in a village some 184km outside Romanian capital Bucharest.
The 38-year-old was fined £310 ($420), according to local traffic law, and has his driving licence revoked for 120 days because of the seriousness of the offence, the police said.
Ongoing Criminal Charges in Romania, UK, and US
The self-declared misogynist and his brother Tristan are facing charges such as rape and human trafficking in Romania, alongside independent accusations in the UK and US. They all deny wrongdoing.
The brothers can travel domestically in Romania, where they are residents, and internationally pending court-imposed conditions on their cases.
History of Speeding Offences, Luxury Car Boasts of Andrew Tate
Andrew Tate was pulled over for speeding on Saturday in the central village of Bujoreni, police stated.
They added in a release that excessive speed continued to be one of the primary causes of road fatalities in Romania.
The older Tate has regularly boasted about his fleet of sports cars, such as Bugattis and Lamborghinis, regularly uploading pictures of himself posing beside them on social media.
The ex-kickboxer has amassed millions of followers online, where he frequently blended political messages with the promotion of a flashy lifestyle.
He has been caught speeding multiple times while driving in Romania.
Tate was pulled over in a town just outside Bucharest in April 2021 for driving a Porsche at 138km/h, local reports said. A year earlier, he had also received a fine for speeding in Germany.
A number of his luxury vehicles were confiscated by Romanian courts in 2023 as part of legal action against him.
Views of Andrew Tate on Corruption and His Legal Future
Tate has reportedly criticised British police for refusing bribes during traffic stops, calling it “offensive”. He has cited such attitudes as among the reasons for moving his businesses to Romania in 2017.
A central theme in Tate’s online messaging is the idea that an “elite club” of successful individuals live free from the challenges faced by others.
Tate has stated that he escaped “the Western world” by moving to Romania, “where corruption is accessible to everybody”.
A fan site quoted him saying: “If corruption exists, which it does, let us all play.”
British prosecutors have said Andrew and Tristan Tate will return to the UK to face 21 criminal charges – including rape and human trafficking – once proceedings against them in Romania have concluded.
The brothers are also facing a separate, civil lawsuit brought by four women who allege they were coerced into sex work.
Andrew Tate also faces a lawsuit in the US from an ex-girlfriend who accuses him of sexual assault.
The brothers have characterised themselves as innocent in relation to all the cases against them.
