Actor Muzammil Ibrahim spilled the beans in a recent interview that he had been dating Deepika Padukone for two years. Though he was initially reluctant, he discussed the dos and don’ts of their relationship with Siddharth Kannan, detailing the ‘cute’ outings they used to do. Here’s what he had to say.
How It All Began between Deepika Padukone and Muzammil
Muzammil was queried regarding his affair with Deepika, and he hesitated to talk about her since she’s married now. He, however, explained when he had started dating her, saying they were still models at the time and had been with him when he became famous.
He said, “I was the first guy she met in Bombay, and she was my first serious relationship. I was in a bad relationship before that. She was very confident because she’s Prakash Padukone’s daughter, and articles would be written about her even then. She proposed to me but I broke it off with her later. I was a star at that time, she was a budding model. She’s a superstar now, nobody knows me.”
The Cute Outings and Special Moments
Muzammil stated that they remained good friends a few years after they broke up and stayed in touch on the phone, but they haven’t talked anymore since her marriage. “When we dated, we were both kids, we would go on dates on a rickshaw in the rain, that was very cute. When I eventually bought a car, I was making more money than her, she was very happy. Neither of us had much money, but we were very happy. I even made my DJ friend play her favourite song on loop for one and a half hours on her birthday. My mom loved her a lot,” said the actor.
He mentioned that he never felt jealous seeing Deepika’s success. Over time, he has come to appreciate her growth and feels happy for her. Muzammil also shared how Deepika has found a wonderful partner in Ranveer Singh. He acknowledged their happiness as a family, noting that they now have a child, Dua, something Deepika always dreamed of.
Muzammil’s Career and Early Days with Deepika Padukone
In 2003, Muzammil was crowned the Gladrags Manhunt India pageant as Mr India. This was when he first met Deepika. In 2004, he was forced to shift his family from Kashmir to Mumbai owing to insurgency. While In 2007, he made his lead debut with Dhokha. In 2009, he featured in Horn ‘Ok’ Pleassss, and in 2012, he played in Will You Marry Me?. He remembered being approached first for Aditya Roy Kapur’s part in the 2013 movie Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani that featured Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika. He featured in the 2020 Hotstar series Special Ops.
