On Sunday morning, residents of Dibang Valley in Arunachal Pradesh felt tremors from a mild earthquake. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) confirmed that the earthquake had a magnitude of 3.8. The quake occurred at 5:06 AM IST. It struck at a depth of 10 kilometers. The epicenter was located at 29.03 degrees North latitude and 95.78 degrees East longitude.
Soon after, NCS shared the update on X (formerly Twitter) “EQ of M: 3.8, On: 18/05/2025 05:06:33 IST, Lat: 29.03 N, Long: 95.78 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Dibang Valley, Arunachal Pradesh.”
Second Quake Within 24 Hours
Interestingly, this was not the first tremor in the area over the weekend. Less than 24 hours earlier, another earthquake hit the region on Saturday. This earlier quake had a slightly lower magnitude of 3.4. It occurred at a depth of 12 kilometers. According to NCS, the epicenter for that quake was at 28.78 degrees North latitude and 95.70 degrees East longitude.
No Damage Reported
Thankfully, officials have not reported any injuries or damage from either tremor. Arunachal Pradesh often experiences such low to moderate earthquakes because it lies in a high seismic activity zone.
