Man Assaults Wife with Screwdriver for Giving Birth to Daughter in Uttarakhand

In a shocking case of Uttarakhand, a woman was savagely attacked by her husband for delivering a baby girl. The assault happened last month and came to light when a viral video surfaced that showed the husband beating up the woman and yanking her hair.

Use of Tools in the Assault Alleged by Woman

The victim alleges that her husband employed a screwdriver and a hammer to attack her. She reported that harassment by her husband and his relatives started soon after their wedding in November 2022, with constant demands for dowry. The victim said the abuse escalated when she gave birth to a daughter, prompting the brutal attack.

Woman’s Plea for Justice

Even though there was alarming video proof, the woman accused that the police initially did nothing concrete. She has now approached multiple authorities with her complaints, including the Chief Minister’s website, the Women’s Helpline, and the National Commission for Women (NCW), calling for justice and harsh punishment to her husband.

Allegations of a Murder Plot

She also accused her in-laws of trying to murder her to evade paying alimony in the event of a divorce. She stated that they asked her to go to their home to sign papers, but closed the door and beat her up with objects such as a screwdriver and a hammer. The cries alerted locals, who broke her out from the beating.
The mother of the woman had backed her daughter’s claims, stating that the in-laws had insisted on a dowry for ages and had demanded a son. When these demands weren’t fulfilled, they allegedly threw her daughter out of the house. The mother had criticized the violent assault and demanded the severest punishment for the husband.

Police Investigation Underway

A case was formally registered on March 30 under a few charges, which were amended after medical reports and witness depositions. Circle Officer Deepak Singh confirmed the accused is in police remand and the probe continues
