A Baloch man named Akhtar, son of Akbar, was allegedly taken by Pakistani security forces during a surprise raid in Karachi’s Lyari area, according to The Balochistan Post. The incident has triggered strong concern among locals and human rights advocates.

Taken During Pre-Dawn Operation

Eyewitnesses and family members told The Balochistan Post that the raid happened early on April 11, around 4 a.m. Security personnel reportedly entered Akhtar’s house without showing any arrest warrant. They allegedly took him away without giving any reason or legal explanation. The family has not heard anything official about where he is or why he was detained.

No Charges, No Information

Since Akhtar’s detention, no charges have been filed against him. Authorities have not shared any information with the family, which has led to growing fears of an enforced disappearance. Human rights groups have long criticised such disappearances in Pakistan, especially in areas with large Baloch populations.

Activists Demand Transparency

Rights activists have called for Akhtar to be released immediately or for officials to clearly state his legal status. They say these types of arrests without process cause fear and mistrust in minority communities. “Such incidents contribute to a climate of fear and mistrust, especially among minority communities, and highlight the urgent need for accountability and legal oversight in security operations,” The Balochistan Post reported.

Violence in Gwadar Triggers Protest

In a separate tragic incident, a young boy named Saahil Gulab was brutally murdered in Gwadar district. This led to a large protest rally in Pasni town, where locals demanded justice and accountability.

Wider Pattern of Disappearances

The Balochistan region has witnessed many such cases over the years. People are often taken without legal procedures, and some return traumatised, while others are never seen again or are found dead. These ongoing abuses reflect a pattern of impunity and have eroded trust in the authorities. They also silence dissent and weaken the rule of law in the region.
