A strong dust storm swept across New Delhi on Friday evening, changing the weather suddenly. As a result, several parts of the city, including the Arun Jaitley Stadium, faced intense winds.
At the same time, the Mumbai Indians (MI) squad was in the middle of a training session. Suddenly, the storm hit the ground, forcing the players and coaches to rush for safety. MI shared a video of the incident on social media. In the clip, Deepak Chahar, head coach Mahela Jayawardene, and bowling coach Lasith Malinga can be seen sprinting back to the dugout. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma shouted with a mix of urgency and humor, “Come back, come back!”
Furthermore, Rohit noticed the camera zooming in on him during the chaos. He smiled and jokingly told the cameraman, “Abey mera kya dekh raha hai, woh video le,” which translates to “Why are you taking my video, record that,” while pointing at the swirling dust.
Flights face delays due to storm
Apart from affecting the cricket practice, the storm also disrupted flight operations in the national capital. According to reports, bad weather conditions caused at least 15 flights to be diverted. Additionally, many other flights experienced long delays.
IMD shares weather safety advisory
Soon after the storm, the weather department released a safety advisory. It warned citizens, “Do not take shelter under trees, do not lie on concrete floors and lean against concrete walls. Unplug electrical appliances. Immediately get out of water bodies.” Authorities urged the public to follow these instructions to stay safe during similar storms.
MI struggles continue on the field
Meanwhile, MI’s performance in the IPL has been underwhelming. The team has lost two matches in a row. Now, they will face Delhi Capitals on Sunday and hope to avoid a third straight defeat. So far, Hardik Pandya’s captaincy has not brought the desired results. The team has only one win and four losses.
Consequently, fans have started questioning Pandya’s leadership. Even Jasprit Bumrah’s return has not helped the team win. Still, MI will look to bounce back and change their momentum in the upcoming match.
