As reported by The Independent, a witness indicated that the car hit numerous individuals in Planken, the primary shopping district of the city.

Officials have confirmed that one individual has been detained regarding the incident, according to AFP.

Mannheim authorities have advised residents to avoid the area while emergency personnel continue their operation.

Officials characterized the incident as “life-threatening” and have initiated an inquiry to ascertain the details surrounding the collision.

“A police operation is currently taking place in the Mannheim city center, near Wasserturm/Plankenkopf. Police and rescue teams are en route,” a spokesperson for the police mentioned.
