As US govern Given the White House’s Valentine’s Day post, which generated a lot of debate online, President Donald Trump keeps driving home his strict immigration policy. Shared on its official Instagram page, the post had a basic message with a red heart emoji: “Happy Valentine’s Day”.
The post featured a meme incorporating the famous “Roses are red, violets are blue” couplet. The revised edition stated: “Roses are red, violets are blue; come here unlawfully, we deport you.” It also included photographs of Tom Homan, border security official for the Trump administration.

Using officers from many different federal departments to execute nationwide raids, Trump’s administration is redoubling its attempts to restrict illegal immigration by sending agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE). Authorities argue that their top priorities include apprehending the most violent criminals. The New York Post says federal agents made 11,000 apprehensions—already about a third of last year’s total—within the first 18 days of this crackdown.
Social media backlash
Many on social media were appalled and reacted vigorously to the post. Feedback varied from criticism to something like “This is not usual.”. Don’t let them deceive you to believe it is. Some users nevertheless support Trump‘s immigration position. One reader wrote, I’m so delighted with this. One respondent said, “I love this,”; another added “; one other said ” There are consequences if you violate the law.” This is 100% normal.”
Illegal crossings have sharply decreased, say Border Patrol officers. Across the southern border, customs and border protection agents are now arresting an average of 359 migrants daily—a steep 90% decline from February 2024. This way, the United States is headed for monthly border crossings in 25 years. Quoting a border patrol source, The New York Post adds, “Already in the last few weeks a message is being sent out that the border isn’t going to be trampled over anymore; national security isn not a joke to us.”
