India, Fiji to Set Up Joint Working Group on Defence

India, Fiji to Set Up Joint Working Group on Defence

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met with his Fijian counterpart Pio Tikoduadua on the sidelines of Aero India 2025 in Bengaluru. The two leaders agreed to institutionalize an India-Fiji Joint Working Group (JWG) on Defence Cooperation, further deepening bilateral military ties.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Singh shared details of the meeting, stating:

“Had an appreciative meeting with the Defence Minister of Fiji, Mr. Pio Tikoduadua in Bengaluru. Discussed ways to deepen defence cooperation. We agreed to institutionalize India-Fiji Joint Working Group (JWG) on Defence Cooperation.”

Meeting with South Sudan’s Defence Minister

Earlier, Singh also met with South Sudan’s Defence Minister, Lt Gen Chol Thon J. Balok, to discuss ongoing defence collaborations, including UN peacekeeping cooperation.

“Met with the Defence Minister of South Sudan Lt Gen Chol Thon J. Balok on the sidelines of AERO India 2025. We reviewed the ongoing defence cooperation including the UN peacekeeping cooperation,” Singh posted on X.

Aero India 2025: Strengthening India’s Defence Vision

Aero India 2025 serves as a major platform to showcase India’s self-reliance in defence and foster international partnerships. Defence Minister Singh highlighted its significance, stating:

  • The 15th edition of Asia’s largest aerospace and defence exhibition will be inaugurated at Yelahanka Air Force Station in Bengaluru.
  • The event is set to boost innovation and business collaborations in the global defence and aerospace industries.
  • India has made remarkable strides in defence manufacturing, with LCA Tejas and LCA Prachand being produced domestically.

“Under PM Modi’s leadership, India has transformed its defence sector. We are not just designing and developing advanced platforms but have also built a robust supply chain within the country,” Singh said.

Defence Technology: Beyond Military Applications

Singh emphasized that defence innovations are not limited to military use but also drive advancements in civilian applications, boosting employment and economic growth.

“The defence sector is a key driver of India’s economic development, with innovations benefiting multiple industries,” he added.

The five-day conclave will bring together global and Indian CEOs, fostering business expansion and strategic partnerships in defence and aerospace.
