The website of the Election Commission of India shows that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in 46 seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is ahead in 24, and Congress is yet to secure a seat. AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, who was initially leading in early trends, is now trailing behind BJP’s Parvesh Verma.
Delhi Assembly Election Results 2025
The counting of votes for all 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly elections started at 8 AM on Saturday. The contest is mainly between the ruling AAP and the BJP, which has been in opposition since 1998. However, Congress could disrupt the political equation with some unexpected gains.
Key Highlights from Election Trends:
Early trends indicate BJP leading, followed by AAP, while Congress remains behind. AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal (New Delhi constituency), Manish Sisodia (Jangpura), and Atishi (Kalkaji) are all trailing. Congress candidates Sandeep Dikshit (New Delhi) and Alka Lamba (Kalkaji) are also behind. On the other hand, BJP’s Kapil Mishra (Karawal Nagar) and Kailash Gahlot (Bijwasan) are leading in their respective constituencies.
Exit Poll Predictions
Most exit polls anticipated a close race, with the BJP having a slight advantage in both seats and vote share. In 2013, AAP formed a government with Congress’s external support after winning 28 seats, but the government lasted only 49 days. In 2015, AAP secured a sweeping victory with 67 out of 70 seats, and in 2020, it retained power with 62 seats, while BJP won the remaining eight. Once again, Congress failed to win even a single seat.
Party-wise Seat Distribution
AAP and Congress have contested candidates in all 70 constituencies, while BJP contested 68 seats, leaving two for its allies—Janata Dal (United) and Loktantrik Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas). In the race are 699 candidates, with 603 male, 95 female, and one third-gender contestant. The voting turnout is reported to be 60.5% with 9,451,997 electors casting their votes on February 5 out of 15,614,000.
